A man claims to have a bomb inside the Wells Fargo bank at 2675 Windy Hill Road, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

SWAT, Bomb, and K9 are responding to the scene. Officials received a call about the incident around 9:30 A.M. EST on Friday.

UPDATE: The suspect who held two hostages is dead. Police say “a member of the tactical team may have been responsible for the deceased” during the bank standoff.

What Happened?

According to Cobb Police, a man at Wells Fargo Bank is claiming to have a bomb. SWAT, Bomb squads and K9 Unites have responded to the scene and there is heavy police activity.

The Ventura County Star reports that he entered the Wells Fargo and handed the clerk a note demanding money and stating that he had a bomb.

WSB TV reports that the suspect called the Channel 2 Action News Newsroom just before 10:30 A.M. and spent more than 30 minutes discussing his life and detailing his demands. They say they spoke to two hostages who said they were OK. During the phone call, the suspect claimed to have a bomb powerful enough to “take out the entire room.” He said he did not want to hurt anyone and if he did detonate the bomb, he would let the two people go. Also in the conversation, he said he was a Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq with a supply company.

“What we are trying to do is just let everybody know this is an active situation,” said an officer on the scene. “No public is at risk, and we have been talking with him inside the bank.”

“We have to be cautious that he may be monitoring social media and television right now because it is an active situation, said an official.

The man is inside the bank with an unknown amount of employees. While the man has made “general threats,” Officer Alicia Chilton said, no one inside or outside the bank has been harmed.

UPDATE: Everyone except for the negotiators and the man are out of the building. Many area businesses are on lockdown in the area until the situation is resolved.

“This is an active situation, however, the public is not at risk,” Chilton said in an email. “Due to it being a very active situation and the fact that the suspect may be monitoring media/social media, we are limiting the amount of information we release at this time.”

The initial 911 call came in around 9:32 A.M. EST. Police have since shut down Windy Hill Road. A road block has also been set up from !-75 to North Park Place.

The Cobb County Police mobile command unit is on the scene where police are gathered at a gas station nearby. Snipers are on the scene as well as police in riot gear.

This is being treated as a hostage situation. At this time, no injuries have been reported though it is unclear how many people are in the bank.
