We’re headed to Boston as the series picks up at a new venue going into game three. After the Bruins gave up a 3-1 lead in game two to the Senators, the game was forced into an overtime. With the overtime winning goal coming from Dion Phaneuf, the Senators were able to tie the series at one. The Bruins are back in their home city and are looking to correct their game two blunder with a win. With both games so far in the series being caused by one team’s blunder, it will be an interesting game to watch.
The Bruins looked great in the first two periods of game two. After winning game one and leading in the second game, it looked like the Bruins were going to win this series. However, past demons came out of the Boston team, as they failed to stop the Senators’ comeback. This is the story we have seen all year with this team, they seem to fail to be consistent, which will hurt their chances at winning the cup. Having a 3-1 lead should be a guaranteed win, not a possible loss. The Bruins need to win tonight’s game if they want to regain the prowess they had in the first game. After the Celtics had a disappointing game one loss to the Bulls, Boston fans are hoping that the Bruins will be able to win this game at home.
The Senators did not want to leave Ottawa with losing the series 2-0 to the Bruins, so the game two win was big for them. After giving up the lead and eventually losing game one, the Senators knew they had to prove they are a playoff-winning team. The comeback in game two was huge for the team and it showed that they can bring it on when under a lot of pressure. The win also showed that the Bruins can sometimes fly too close to the sun, which Ottawa can use to their advantage. It also seems like the Senators were using the Bruins’ own system against them as Boston was able to pull out the win in game one by relentlessly pushing on the Ottawa defense. By constantly forcing the puck into the Bruins’ zone, it tired out Rask and the Bruins’ defense, which led to the win. If the Bruins can adapt and fight back, then the Senators may easily win this series.
After watching both games, I have no doubt this series won’t be decided until game seven. These two teams have shown a lot of mistakes in both games, so the team that will win is the one that can take advantage of the others weakness.
