With Lomachenko’s unreal blend of speed, power, and impeccable technique, Sosa is going to need to bring his A-game just to have a shot at scoring the upset.
This is Lomachenko’s (7-1, 5 KOs) third fight at junior lightweight, as he fought his first six pro matches at featherweight and held the division’s WBO title from 2014 to 2016. On June 11, 2016, Lomachenko became the fastest boxer to ever win world titles in two weight classes, knocking out Román Martínez in the fifth round of their WBO junior lightweight championship bout. The two-time Olympic gold medalist from the Ukraine has made one successful title defense, scoring a knockout victory over Nicholas Walters in the seventh round of their November 26, 2016 match.

Sosa (20-1-4, 15 KOs) is a former champion, as he knocked out Javier Fortuna in the 11th round of their WBA (Regular) junior lightweight title bout on June 24, 2016. The Camden, New Jersey native would then make a successful title defense against Stephen Smith, earning a unanimous decision victory in their November 12, 2016 match. After dispatching Smith, Sosa decided to vacate his belt for a chance to face Lomachenko, which might end up being a choice that he drastically regrets.
