History has finally been made for the Northwestern Wildcats. They are set to play in their first NCAA Tournament game in the program’s history. The eighth-seeded Wildcats will begin their tournament play against the ninth-seeded Vanderbilt Commodores.
Northwestern advanced all the way to the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament. On the other side, Vanderbilt also advanced to their conference tournament semifinals before losing to the eventual SEC champions, Kentucky.
The Wildcats have currently won three of their past five games, and the two losses are from top conference threats Purdue and Wisconsin. Northwestern is led by their point guard Bryant McIntosh, who leads the team in points (14.4) and assists (5.3) per game.
Vanderbilt was faced with a grueling schedule and also made history this season by becoming the first team to receive an at-large bid with 15 losses. The Commodores have four players averaging double figures and also managed to defeat Florida three times this season, including the conference tournament.
