Pi Kappa Alpha History
Pi Kappa Alpha was founded on March 1, 1868 at the University of Virginia by Robertson Howard, Julian Edward Wood, James Benjamin Sclater Jr., Frederick Southgate Taylor, Littleton Waller Tazewell Bradford, and William Alexander. The fraternity expanded rapidly, as the second chapter was formed at Davidson College on March 1, 1869. With more and more chapters being established, Pi Kappa Alpha’s first official convention took place in December of 1874 in Richmond, Virginia.
As for their philanthropic efforts, the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation was founded in 1948. This foundation raises money for numerous causes, including scholarships, leadership programs, chapter house facilities, and honoring Pike members who died while serving in the military.
