The 12-team Conference USA Tournament field is down to just two, as Middle Tennessee will take on Marshall in the championship game. You might remember Middle Tennessee as the team that ruined your bracket last year. The Blue Raiders shocked the world in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, pulling off a 15-seed/2-seed upset over Michigan State.

While Middle Tennessee was expected to be here after winning the regular season Conference USA title with a 17-1 record in conference play, the Thundering Herd’s run has come out of nowhere. Marshall was given the #6 seed in the Conference USA Tournament after going 10-8 in conference play during the regular season. They’ve been playing lights out this weekend, though, beating #11 Florida Atlantic 89-74 in the first round, #3 Old Dominion 64-63 in the quarterfinals, and #2 Louisiana Tech 93-77 in the semifinals.
Middle Tennessee earned the #1 seed and a first round bye in the Conference USA Tournament, and it seems like they should’ve just been given a three-round bye. They’ve cruised to the championship game, beating #9 UTSA 86-70 in the quarterfinals and #4 UTEP 82-56 in the semifinals.
The Blue Raiders went 2-0 against Marshall in the regular season, with both of their wins being of the double-digit variety. They beat the Thundering Herd 69-57 at home on January 12, and on February 18, Middle Tennessee left Marshall’s campus with a 97-86 victory.
