Las Vegas is hosting their first UFC show of the year, and it is shaping up to be one hell of a night. The pay-per-view event will be at the T-Mobile Arena, headlined by the welterweight title bout featuring champion Tyron Woodley against Stephen Thompson. UFC 209 will be a rematch between Thompson and Woodley that ended in a stunning draw. The back-and-forth fight was originally called as a win for Woodley before Joe Rogan turned the tables and announced that it a majority draw.
The other co-main event will be for the interim lightweight belt. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are set to battle it out in a highly-anticipated affair. The winner is expected to challenge Conor McGregor. Former lightweight champion Rashad Evans will be moving down a weight class and make his debut as a middleweight against the Australian Daniel Kelly. To open up the pay-per-view, Alistair Overeem will take on Mark Hunt in a heavyweight rematch.
To say champion Woodley has unfinished business with Thompson is an understatement. Woodley essentially got the Steve Harvey treatment after being announced the winner and then having the call completely switched. Woodley possesses an MMA record of 16-3-1 compared to a 13-1-1 record for Thompson. The champion has won five of his last six fights and should have the advantage in later rounds. Both fighters have the capability to end the fight with one strike, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this one.
