Delta Chi History
Delta Chi was founded on October 13, 1890 by 11 law students at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The fraternity was originally only for law students, but World War I lead to that requirement being changed. Delta Chi saw their numbers dwindling due to members leaving school to join the armed forces, so they eventually decided to do away with this stipulation. On April 30, 1922, Delta Chi became a general membership fraternity and was open to students in all areas of study.
Since 2006, Delta Chi’s official philanthropic partner has been the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The foundation was named in honor of Jim Valvano, who was a legendary college basketball coach and cancer victim. Through unrelenting hard work, Delta Chi has raised $1 million for this very noble cause.
