On Sunday, February 19, Liam Purdy shocked the world with an amazing win at the 2017 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship. The American University sprinter lost his right shoe during the 800-meter race, but he was still able to leave his competition in the dust. No shoe, no problem. While Purdy winning that race with a time of 1:53.25 is highly impressive, all of those other sprinters need to be embarrassed. Losing a race to somebody with only one shoe is like getting beat in anĀ ass-kicking contest by a one-legged man.
Purdy told The Washington Post that he lost his shoe around the halfway point of the race after another runner stepped on his heel. This is the price you pay when you have the heart of a goddamn lion.
