Blair Mendy, a 22-year-old college basketball player at Stony Brook University, was charged with the rape of a minor, authorities said.
Mendy, a Stony Brook sophomore from San Jose, California, was charged with third-degree rape, sexual misconduct, and endangering the welfare of a child, said university Police Chief Robert Lenahan.
Lenahan provided no further details on the case. Mendy is expected to be arraigned Thursday.
Mendy transferred to Stony Brook from the City College of San Francisco and played two games with the Stony Brook Seawolves this year.
The arrest comes four months after the team’s top returning player, starting guard Ahmad Walker, 23, was suspended from the team while facing police charges.
