In this late night West Coast Conference showdown, the Saint Mary’s Gaels will travel to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. There will be contrasting styles of play in tonight’s game, as Gonzaga can light up the scoreboard and St. Mary’s takes pride in their defense. Gonzaga currently ranks 15th in the country in scoring with an average of 86.0 points per game, while St. Mary’s holds their opponents to just 56.6 points per game (2nd in the country). Something’s gotta give!
As terrific as Saint Mary’s has been this season, they might be in a bit over their heads. Even though they are ranked #21 in the country, 15-1 overall, and 5-0 in conference play, they still haven’t played a ranked team yet. It would be a big-time upset if they were able to beat Gonzaga on the road.
After Baylor got whipped by West Virginia on Tuesday, Gonzaga (16-0, 4-0 WCC) became the only undefeated team left in college basketball. The #5 ranked Bulldogs look poised for a deep March run, as they are absolutely loaded with talent. Gonzaga has played a much tougher schedule than St. Mary’s up to this point, going 2-0 against ranked opponents.
