This intense dashcam footage shows the moment a plane crashed shortly after taking off in Malta. The crash, Malta’s worst peacetime aircraft accident, happened at about 5:30 A.M. as the plane was heading for Misrata in Libya.

The video was taken by local resident Laurent Azzopardi, who posed it to Facebook. Writing on Facebook, Laurent said: “On my way to work this morning – a very shocking experience , a plane crash (very close).”

The harrowing footage shows the plane rising in the air before seeming to lose power and crash towards the ground. The wreckage is then engulfed in flames. According to Mirror, it has now been confirmed that five French customs officials were killed in the crash.

Initially reports claimed that the plane was leased from Luxembourg and used by officials from Frontex, which is the EU border management agency. However, Frontex said it was not one of their planes.
