There was no one who would have looked at the schedule for this season and thought in Week 5 that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers would have the exact same record. When the two teams play on Monday night, they will both take 1-3 records into the game. The winner of this one will have a chance still in the NFC South while the loser could be looking ahead to the 2017 season already in early October. Here is a look at the matchup.
The Buccaneers lost 27-7 to the Denver Broncos for their third straight loss. Jameis Winston has thrown for 1,108 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. The interceptions must come down for Tampa Bay to be successful going forward. Mike Evans has 26 catches for 360 yards and three touchdowns and has been targeted 50 times already this season by Winston. Charles Sims has 116 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground while replacing an injured Doug Martin. The defense needs a big night against whoever is under center for the Panthers to win this one.
The Panthers fell 48-33 to the Atlanta Falcons on the road last week and don’t look anything like the team that went to the Super Bowl last year. Cam Newton may not play after getting a concussion last week. Newton has thrown for 974 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions but it may be up to Derek Anderson to lead the charge in this one. Newton also leads the team in rushing with 147 yards on the ground. Greg Olsen has 24 catches for 335 yards and two touchdowns to lead the receivers. This should be a chance for the Carolina defense to show how good they really are against an inconsistent Winston.
