Jackie Conrad, a 39-year-old ex-professor at New York Institute of Technology, was found dead in his apartment on Thursday night. An autopsy will confirm what police think they already know: that he killed himself.
Back when Jackie was a professor at NYIT, he was accused of planting a spy camera in a third-floor handicap bathroom at the Old Westbury campus in Nassau County. According to statements, a woman using the bathroom saw the camera (which was disguised as a pen) coming out from the ceiling. When Jackie was confronted about the spy camera, he copped to having placed it.
Jackie was arrested and fired from his job. He was arraigned last Thursday on charges of unlawful surveillance.
From the NY Daily News:
Jackie Conrad, 39, was found in his apartment on Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. near W. 138th St. at about 6 p.m. cops said — just eight days after his arrest on unlawful surveillance charges.
Who Was Jackie Conrad?
Jackie used to be an anatomy professor at the New York Institute of Technology. He moved into an apartment in Harlem, into a building where neighbors described him as a nice enough guy. “I ran into him at 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock in the morning and I never got the slightest creepy vibe,” neighbor Jenny Lischer told the Daily News. “He was genuine, he was joyous, he cared about people, he had an aura.”
