The San Francisco General Hospital, now formally known as the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, has been called the location of an active shooter and possible bomb location. Police have responded to reports of shots fired within the SF General and people in the area have been asked to evacuate.
Police were called to SF General just before 2 PM, reporting that something sounded like gunfire.
There have been reports of bombs, gunfire, and barrel bombs but official police reports haven’t mentioned anything about what they’ve found.
Of course, that’s conflicting with reports on Twitter that people have heard over the scanner that police found remnants of a “barrel bomb.” We haven’t heard the police scanner for ourselves, so take that information with a grain of salt.
Per #SFPD scanner: What looks like "remnants of a barrel bomb" discovered on 5th floor of SFGH building. Possible shots fired, explosives.

It’s entirely possible that the barrel bomb, plus combinations of gunfire were in fact, could mean that what happened was that someone set off fireworks.
Update–6:11 PM EST: There you have it. Illegal fireworks. Glad it wasn’t something else.
Evidence of illegal fireworks found at #SFGH. Investigation ongoing. Shelter in place. Avoid calling Dispatch unless necessary. @UCSF

Another theory is that it was a faulty generator.
But here’s what we do know. The area has been evacuated. Police are on the scene.
