Emmy Victor, a black reporter for KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa, was verbally assaulted during a live news segment. Emmy was reporting on the death of Michael Disbrowe, a man who was shot and killed by police officers after threatening them with a gun, when all of a sudden Disbrowe’s mother appeared on camera. Well, not just appeared… She starting mouthing off at Emmy, using one particularly racist term.
I think it’s pretty clear after learning that Michael Disbrowe threatened police officers with a gun that the Disbrowe isn’t exactly a wholesome household. It’s also unacceptable to use the n-word. But I can’t help but feel a little bad for the mother. Sure, this reporter is just talking about the news, but she’s also talking about the death of a son on the front steps of the son’s house.
