NBA Draft 2016: How Did Boston Celtics Lose The Draft?

The Boston Celtics went into the 2016 NBA Draft with a pile of draft picks and no place to put all those players. The No. 3 pick was in play for a long time before Boston decided to actually pick Jaylen Brown. Boston would end up making six picks and adding another draft pick for 2019 in the process. While that may seem like a great night, the players that Boston selected though weren’t the greatest of quality proving quantity over quality doesn’t work. Boston was one of the losers on draft night.
Brown wasn’t projected as one of the top three picks in the draft. While he is a solid player, the Celtics could have selected others like Kris Dunn or Buddy Hield there and got more value out of the deal. With the No. 16 pick, Boston took Guerschon Yabusele from France who was a projected second round pick. While the selection of Ante Zizic was good at No. 23 and second round picks Demetrius Jackson and Ben Bentil could make the team, it wasn’t the greatest of nights for Boston.
The Celtics didn’t get a superstar in a trade or in the draft. Boston may end up regretting trading away their No. 31 and 35 picks to the Clippers for a 2019 lottery-protected draft pick. It was simply too much quantity to deal with in one night for the Celtics and now they are left to figure out where all the pieces fall in piece for next season. It could turn into a very mediocre year for the Celtics and their fans as they try to improve over this season.
