There has been a plan for the Philadelphia 76ers for a long time now. The team has been losing and losing trying to get higher draft picks. After getting Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor over the last three years, the team now has the No. 1 overall pick in the June 23 NBA Draft. There are plenty of solid options out there for the 76ers to work with but it will likely come down to just one player for the first of the team’s three first-round picks.
Isaiah Canaan is another solid young player but is a restricted free agent who could leave town. Outside of Canaan, the team’s core is pretty much set. It means a player like LSU’s Ben Simmons could come in and be the main scoring threat for Philadelphia, who is still recovering from trading away Kobe Bryant two decades ago. Simmons has the potential of being the next Bryant and he is someone that the 76ers desperately need on their roster.
There are also people who believe that Brandon Ingram would be the better choice over Simmons so the organization has a big decision to make right away when they are on the clock to start the draft. It is a no-win situation if the player they decide not to choose turns into a megastar but the 76ers need talent and Simmons and/or Ingram will help out from day one in the lineup. The years of losing may finally be ending in Philadelphia.
