If the Indy 500 is the largest sporting event in the world, and this year was the 100th running of the Indy 500, that would make the 2016 Indy 500 the largest sporting event in history, right? It certainly felt like it. For the first time ever, the Indianapolis Speedway–which can fit 450,000 people inside–was completely sold out; including suites, seats, and infield standing room.
The Indy 500 was literally the biggest party we’ve ever been to and it’s likely to remain that way.
So what did we actually do? A ton of stuff. So much that we couldn’t actually fit it all into one video. We spoke to all the Verizon IndyCar Series racers, the Brickyard (the nickname for the Indianapolis Speedway) legends who returned for the big day, and even got to ride with the one and only Mario Andretti around the course. But enough talk, let’s try and show you just how nuts the 100th running of the Indy 500 was.
The all-access pass we had to the weekend was definitely something we appreciated, but it’s not the Indy 500 until you head into the infield and hang with the college kids who brought in coolers and backpacks with cold beers. We had the chance to meet a ton of rowdy people, who truthfully may or may not remember us, including these guys.

Like where else could these dudes take off their shirts and not get side eyes? Only in Indy.
A huge shoutout to the Verizon IndyCar Series people for having us to their premiere event of the season. We can’t stress this enough: these IndyCar races are something you need to experience for yourself. Like we said, you don’t need a VIP pass or a suite (but those things are nice). All you need is an RV, a bunch of friends who are down to ride, and a ton of ice.
Also, maybe some milk.
