Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74, and boxers the world over went to the internet to pay tribute — from Evander Holyfield to Lennox Lewis to Oscar de la Hoya. But only one boxer immediately thought of one very specific image of Muhammad Ali as a sports icon. That would be Floyd Mayweather, who rushed to Instagram to salute Ali making a lot of money.
Well, at least it was something different. Floyd wrote, among other things: “You are someone that inspired me greatly throughout my boxing journey, and words cannot express how great you were as a person!” The whole thing really does feel kind of heartfelt — except for Floyd’s salute to Ali as a guy who posed with massive stacks of cash. But, yes, we suppose Ali was a pioneer there, too…
