Chicago Gang Member Shot While Live Streaming Video on Facebook

A 31-year-old man was shot yesterday during a live streaming Facebook video. He is currently in critical condition and was undergoing surgery Thursday night.

The man’s name has yet to be released, but police said the victim is a documented gang member. The shooting took place around 4:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Hoyne Avenue, Chicago Police Officer Thomas Sweeney told BuzzFeed News. It was one of the nine shootings across the city that day.

In the video, the victim can be seen smiling and talking into the camera while music is playing in the background. Suddenly gunshots ring out and the victim drops the camera and falls to the ground. The camera — which is pointing upwards — then catches the gunman, where he can be seen firing repeatedly before fleeing. At the end of the video, people can be heard screaming and running to help the victim. You can watch the full video below.

Police have been made aware of the video and an investigation is underway.
