Route 66 in Tijeres, New Mexico isn’t the most popular section of highway to drive on, but it’s certainly one of the most interesting.
In addition to the beautiful views of mountains and the Tijeres Canyons, a portion of Route 66 between the 4 and 5 mile marker has become known as “Musical Route 66.” Drivers who maintain the 45 mile per hour speed limit and drive along the rumble strips are treated to a performance of “America The Beautiful,” played by their tires.
