Cornell Basketball Player Arrested, Charged With Rape & Strangulation

Xavier D. Eaglin, a 19-year-old Cornell University basketball player, has been arrested on charges of rape, sexual assault, and strangulation, as reported by the Cornell University Police Department to the Cornell Sun. The CUPD has charged Eaglin with first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree criminal sexual assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.

Eaglin was charged with four Class B felonies and one Class A misdemeanor. He was arraigned Monday and was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m., according to CUPD [source].

A police press release said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the Ivy League, considering that Yale’s former captain, Jack Montague, was expelled from school following a rape investigation.

Who Is Xavier Eaglin?

Xavier was born in Texas, where he was named District Player of the Year for his performance at Dayton High School. He was offered spots at Yale and Loyola University Maryland before accepting a role at Cornell. He’s now (or was) a forward at Cornell University and had registered a total of nine minutes in seven games this season.
