It was a big week for trailers, with lots of first looks via Super Bowl 50, plus a final trailer on Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. We didn’t even know a new Purge film was coming on July 4th, but now we know what we’re doing that day. It looks like The Purge: Election Year is continuing the same heavy-handed politics of The Purge: Anarchy, though — with Frank Grillo returning as the vengeful dad who discovered forgiveness one sentimental Purge Night. Now he’s protecting hot Senator Charlie Roan, who wants to purge The Purge. Of course, assassination is also cool on Purge Night….
Ryan Reynolds is having a big weekend with Deadpool, but he had a big bomb with the body-transference movie Self/less. Amazingly enough, he’s back at it with Criminal, although he seems to get killed off early so the very important information in his mind can be transferred into psycho bad guy Kevin Costner, who now has a better excuse than usual to have a younger love interest. Also, Gary Oldman will be yelling in this…
Here’s another look at the wild first-person-shooter action movie where You, The Viewer, get hit, slammed, hurt, and — well, it looks like an attractive blonde will suck on your toes. Also, you’re a cyborg on the run from the bad guys, and you get goaded to go spill more blood even though you’re already hurt really bad….
And here’s a little thriller that we highly recommend — about a Puritan family who encounters some really horrific creeping dread at their farm in New England. Don’t go looking for plot twists. Just enjoy the slow burn as things keep getting worse for the poor people who don’t know what’s in the woods. You shouldn’t know, either..
