Erica Kinsman, the former Florida State University student who claims she was raped by Jameis Winston in 2012, reached a settlement in her lawsuit against FSU.
The announcement was made today, along with details from TMZ Sports that revealed FSU paid $950K to Erica and her attorneys. Of the $950K, $700K goes to her lawyers and $250K goes to Erica. So why did she sue the school instead of Jameis Winston? Because according to Erica and her counsel, FSU intentionally bumbled the investigation to keep Winston on the team.
Update–12/15/2016: Erica and Jameis have settled the lawsuit. The trial was supposed to begin this April. It’s believed that the settlement covers both Kinsman’s lawsuit of Winston, and Winston’s counter-suit against Kinsman.
There are those who would say that Erica’s stories has changed too often to be believable, but clearly FSU would rather pay a million dollars than have the rest of the world decide that for themselves.
