There are few games on the college football bowl season this year that will feature two more similar teams than what will occur in the Belk Bowl on December 30 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The 7-5 NC State Wolfpack will face the 8-4 Mississippi State Bulldogs with both teams averaging nearly the same amount of points scored per game and allowed per contest. That should make this one of the closest games of the whole bowl season.
NC State lost their season finale to North Carolina 45-34 on November 28. Jacoby Brissett has passed for 2,448 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions for the year while looking the direction of Jaylen Samuels a lot. Samuels has 64 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in the pass game while Matthew Dayes has 865 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns to lead the ground attack. The Wolfpack are averaging 33.7 points a game on offense and 23.8 points on defense given up. NC State plays very good defense as well, giving up just 332.5 yards per game.
Mississippi State lost their season finale as well in a 38-27 defeat to Ole Miss. Dax Prescott has been the leader of the Bulldogs offense from day one this season and leads the team in not just passing but rushing as well. Prescott has thrown for 3,413 yards, 25 touchdowns and four interceptions and has added 541 rushing yards and ten more scores on the ground. While Prescott does look downfield, it is usually in the direction of Fred Ross. Ross has 81 catches for 933 yards and four touchdowns. Mississippi State is averaging 33 points a game on offense while giving up an average of 22.8 points a contest.
