The first day of the college football bowl season is littered with decent games but the final game of the night may be the one that fans should pay the most attention to as the 9-3 Arkansas State Red Wolves face the 8-4 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at the Superdome in New Orleans. There aren’t going to be many early bowl matchups that feature teams with records as good as those two.
Arkansas State is averaging 41 points a game and has won their last eight games after starting 1-3 and finished with a 55-17 win over Texas State. Fredi Knighten has thrown for 1,698 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions for the year. Tres Houston has made some big plays in the pass game with 33 catches for 568 yards and ten touchdowns while on the ground, it is the work of Michael Gordon. Gordon has 1,055 yards rushing and nine touchdowns for the Red Wolves. Arkansas State has turned into a very difficult team to slow down on offense and will have had just two weeks in between games.
Louisiana Tech got hammered in their final game of the regular season during a 58-24 loss to Southern Mississippi but won their previous four games. Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel has thrown for 3,575 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Bulldogs this season while tossing it to Trent Taylor early and often. Taylor has 89 catches for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns on the year while Kenneth Dixon has 968 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. These are two high-powered offensive teams that will light the scoreboard up on Saturday night.
