The Appalachian State Mountaineers came onto the national stage a few years back when they beat the Michigan Wolverines at the Big House in Ann Arbor. The 10-2 Mountaineers have moved up to the FBS level and will play in their first bowl game at the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, AL against the 8-4 Ohio Bobcats on Saturday, December 19.
Appalachian State won their last three games including a 34-27 win over South Alabama to end the regular season on December 5. Taylor Lamb has thrown for 2,263 yards, 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the year while looking for big catches from Shaedon Meadors, who has 21 catches for 439 yards and three touchdowns. Marcus Cox has paced the running backs with 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns. The Mountaineers defense is something to watch for, giving up just 18.3 points a game.
Ohio finished their regular season with a 26-21 win over Northern Illinois for their third straight victory. Derrius Vick has passed for 1,809 yards, ten touchdowns and six interceptions this season while finding Sebastian Smith a ton with 61 catches for 752 yards and seven touchdowns. A.J. Ouellette has carried the ball 137 times for 642 yards and five touchdowns to lead the run game for the Bobcats, who will need to slow down a talented Mountaineers offense to take home a win in this game.
