There has been a fierce rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos for a very long time now with AFC West title hopes usually on the line. It has been a rough season for Kansas City with injuries but they will go to Denver on Sunday looking to improve on their 3-5 record as they face the 7-1 Broncos, who are coming off their first loss of the season. It is a game that Denver will be looking forward to as a stepping stone looking to regain a bye for the playoffs.
The Chiefs had last week off after pounding Detroit 45-10 in London two weeks ago. Alex Smith has always been a game manager and continues to do a fine job at that with 1,969 passing yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions this season. The rushing game is all on Charcandrick West these days with Jamaal Charles out for the season with a torn ACL. West has 288 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Smith has finally found a wide receiver to target this season in Jeremy Maclin, who has 42 catches for 566 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs have won two straight and are gaining momentum.
Denver is coming off of a 27-24 loss at Indianapolis where Peyton Manning fell three yards short of becoming the NFL’s all-time passing yards leader. He will get that mark in this game to add to his 2,145 passing yards, nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions for the season. It has been a struggle for the future Hall of Famer. The run game has been a combination of Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. Hillman leads the team in rushing yards with 384 to go with four touchdowns. Demaryius Thomas is clearly Manning’s favorite target with 61 catches for 745 yards and a touchdown. Records will be broken by Manning in this one.
