University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe has resigned, saying that his “decision to resign comes out of love, not hate” and that it was “the right thing to do” at a special press conference on Monday morning. The move comes after Mizzou football players and professors went on strike to bring attention to the ways President Wolfe responded to recent racially-charged incidents–a move that could have cost the university millions in lost revenue were it allowed to continue.
“I am resigning as president of the University Missouri system,” said Wolfe, who looked emotional as he announced his resignation. “My motivation in making this decision comes from a love of Columbia where I grew up and the state of Missouri. I thought and prayed over this decision. It is the right thing to do … The frustration and anger I see is real and I don’t doubt it for a second.”

It’s clear now that the University of Missouri is taking this issue very seriously, but it remains to be seen who will be replacing President Wolfe and whether or not Concerned Student 1950 (the activist group behind the call for action) will have any say in the decision.
