There are some games that mean more than others and Saturday’s matchup between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Northwestern Wildcats has the feel of a game of one of those bigger ones. The 17th-ranked Hawkeyes come in at 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten Conference behind quarterback C.J. Beathard and his 1,239 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions for the season. Jordan Canzeri has rushed for 697 yards and nine touchdowns as well for Iowa while Matt VandeBerg leads the Hawkeyes in receiving with 33 catches for 313 yards and two touchdowns.
The 20th-ranked Wildcats are 5-1 for the season and 1-1 in the Big Ten after losing 38-0 last week against Michigan on the road. Clayton Thorson has proved to be a capable quarterback with 817 passing yards and four touchdowns but has four interceptions as well. Justin Jackson has rushed for 661 yards on 150 carries to lead Northwestern as well while ultraback Dan Vitale has 16 catches for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Northwestern will be looking to bounce back from last week and the winner of this game has the inside track on making the Big Ten Championship Game in December.
