Joe Gliniewicz, a Lieutenant of the Fox Lake Police Department, was named as the victim of the recent Fox Lake shooting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joe’s family and friends.
Joe was a father of four, a beloved husband, and Army Reservist. Friends and coworkers describe Joe as “always very happy. People always joked about him being heavily caffeinated. He was always full of energy. It’s hard to believe.” (source)
In addition to his family and occupation, Joe was apparently an avid athlete who loved to run and swim. According to the Daily Herald,
He led the explorer team at the 2013 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois held at Fox Lake’s Lakefront Park. The fundraiser brought in more than $61,000 for athletes who can’t participate in mainstream sports.
The manhunt for the three men responsible for Joe’s death this morning still continues, although it’s being reported that one of the men was already caught. This has since been disproved.
