The University of Missouri Cheerleaders made their first appearance in the 1909-1910 school year with an ALL-MALE (?!?!?!??!) squad called the “Yell Leaders”. Women were not a part of the team until three joined in the fall of 1937. Needless to say, they’ve added quite a few women in the 78 years since.
But not just any women, but some of the finest college girls the midwest has to offer. Sure, Mizzou will always be the afterthought that the state of Missouri generally is (Seriously, think of one fact you know about Missouri (I literally can’t think of one), but with a cheer squad that looks like this, the attention we collectively pay to Missouri is sure to increase. So start thanking your University’s cheer team, wonderful citizens of Missouri.
The University of Missouri cheerleading program is comprised of three squads, a Small Co-ed Squad for Football/Mens Basketball, a Small Co-ed Squad for Football/Womens Basketball and an All-Girl Squad for Volleyball.
