Yes, it is August and yes, fall is right around the corner but can we stop with the fall and pumpkin craft beer already!? Let’s enjoy Labor Day before it is all pumpkin everything. So instead of a märzen or a spiced beer, this weekend I am enjoying a double IPA that is low in bitterness but high in flavor. This weekend, Brooklyn Brewery’s Brooklyn BLAST is What’s on Tap!
I am always looking for a new IPA to try and when I saw this beauty on tap I was excited. Brooklyn BLAST is brewed with a combination of English and American hops and definitely packs a huge amount of flavor. But even before drinking you get a nice aroma of hoppy citrus and all types of tropical fruit. The taste is consistent with the aroma, hoppy citrus and tons of fruit flavors. As the sip was finishing I was expecting a solid amount of bitterness; after all BLAST is an Imperial IPA. But with only an IBU (International Bitterness Unit) of 53, which is exceptionally low for an Imperial, this brew was rather smooth. (I am guessing the malts on the backend help keep the bitterness down.)
With this brew I am trying a different dish. I want a spicy food that will compliment the beer. So I am grilling steak, a fillet, which has been injected with a habañero chilly! Fancy, delicious, and will pair perfectly with the brew! So raise a glass to the fading summer and a damn good brew!
