Florida’s Valencia College will no longer be forcing ultrasound technician students to perform vaginal exams on one another. Gee, how big of them!
Earlier this year the community college made national news after two students sued the school over the invasive classroom training. They reported having to walk around groups of students while draped in towels, endure sexual comments made by examiners, and undergo various levels of sexual stimulation for the process to go smoother.
According to the school’s president Sandy Shugart, students will now use simulators when practicing the highly invasive ultrasound scanning rather than their bodies.
Shugart stated,
“Demonstrating our respect for and commitment to students is paramount. As part of our commitment to creating and nurturing a caring, inclusive and safe environment that improves student preparedness for professional success, Valencia will continue to review and evaluate all of our educational programs on a frequent basis.”
He also claimed that an independent expert visited the college to review the system last year. Despite student criticism, it was concluded that the examination was done safely and professionally.
Both students continue to seek an undisclosed amount of money in damages.
