Baggage handler Willa Junior called for an emergency landing last week after he fell asleep in a plane’s cargo hold. Somehow Junior didn’t even stir when the Alaskan Airlines flight began to takeoff, but was eventually woken after a suitcase fell on his head. Naturally, he was terrified.
According to Gawker, the (somehow) still employed Willa Junior spoke with ABC News about the incident, in which he recalls fearing for his life:
“Panicked, Junior first tried calling his employer Menzies Aviation, the company Alaska Airlines contracted to provide baggage services, but the person who picked up apparently thought he was a prank caller and hung up. He then called 911, telling the dispatcher, “Hello? I’m trapped in this plane!” before the call cut out. Fearing he might die in the plane’s cargo hold, he texted his mother, “I love you mom.” The pilot returned the plane to the airport, where Junior was rescued.”
Well Junior, lesson learned. Don’t ever fall asleep when loading a plane – those things tend to takeoff shortly after.
