Want to create a sports website that’ll rival COED or BustedCoverage? Here’s your chance. The Brooklyn Nets are one NBA team that doesn’t own their name as a primary web address. The domain Nets.com has belonged to a New Mexico-based company for 20 years–and now that domain is available through an eBay auction.
As of this morning, the price tag had risen over $100,000. That wil surely go up a lot more before the auction ends on Wednesday night. There are many ways that this auction could go. There is the possibility that some company that sells basketball nets actually buys up the domain, or it could go the way of being bought by somebody who hates the team. That’d be funny.
One way or another, this is a very interesting auction. Fans of the Nets should just follow for the fun of it to see where it goes. Maybe a net company buys it and that business gets a ton of new followers because someone doesn’t know to go to BrooklynNets.com. The team has to hope that the site doesn’t turn into something terrible just because they didn’t want to pay for the domain.
