Oakland A’s Jose Canseco shot himself in the hand last night while cleaning his gun–which makes for the latest weird twist in his legendary career. He was a star with the Oakland Athletics, wrote a book admitting his performance-enhancing drug use (along with naming other players), and also played for an independent league team where he pitched. But this whole thing with Jose shooting himself in the hand seems to be a real crowd-pleaser. [photo: Brian Bahr/Getty]
More specifically, Canseco ended up shooting a finger on his left hand. His fiancée tweeted late Tuesday night saying that he was still in surgery and would be okay. That started a lot more Tweeting that served to remind everyone that Jose Canesco is not particularly beloved in the world of baseball….
There will be a point in time where Canseco can safely stay out of the limelight. This isn’t going to be that time. He should probably just be happy that he didn’t shoot himself somewhere else in the process. Canseco’s head has already taken a hard baseball driven into it, so the guy’s still ahead of the game, so to speak.
