All around the country while professors are grading their students, their students are grading their professors. A site called RateMyProfessors.com lets students anonymously gauge the performance of their teachers and no critique or area of criticism is off-limits. You could call one of your professors an evil warlock if you wanted to–but you shouldn’t because they prefer to be called “wizards.” This week, RateMyProfessors.com ranked the 25 highest rated professors in the country and gave them the honor they so richly deserve in a special list.
Indian River State College’s Pat Fitzsimmons of the mathematics department earned the top spot on the list. Students described her as someone who is “always clear” with her instructions who also “went above and beyond” to help keep her classes on task and aware of upcoming dates. That’s pretty good for a professor who teaches math, a subject that can reduce even slightly dumb students to quivering bowls of useless jelly.
Some of our other favorites who made the list include College of Charleston Spanish professor Devon Hanahan who once had a whole class over at her house to help them study for an exam and even cooked them dinner while they studied. Communication professor John Ryan of San Francisco State University also made the list thanks to one student who actually wrote “I actually enjoyed showing up for a three hour night class.”
English professor Rawlslyn Francis of Florida State College at Jacksonville also made the list–and she’s also kind of hot. Sorry, Professor James Stroud of Ball State University, work on your skin foundation and you might have a chance next year.
We’ve compiled the full list of 25 professor below in a special gallery. Congratulations to all of this year’s big winners. We wish that we’d won enough to have them as our professors…
