We’ve had a few arguments about what counts as the Most Overblown Music Video in History–but there’s a new winner with the BBC’s released of this all-star version of “God Only Knows.” It’s part of a new initiative called BBC Music, and announces that UK television is about to make a new commitment to covering all kinds of hot sounds over the next 30 years. Then they probably figure that music will be dead via downloading, and just forget the whole thing.
Anyway, this insane video crams in plenty of stars and all kinds of wild imagery. We can’t believe that Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson was able to participate without going nuts over all the weirdness–and he’s joined by the likes of Pharrell, Chris Martin, Elton John, Dave Grohl, One Direction, Stevie Wonder, and the list just goes on from there. Here’s an answer key to all of the performers in the above graphic. And don’t forget that the BBC has done something like this before with Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”–but a little more restrained…
