This season has brought the first College Football Playoff and teams are already lobbying to get themselves into the discussion for being one of the top four teams. Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio came out during his weekly news conference and said that the only teams that should make the playoffs are conference winners. [photo: Al Messerschmidt/Getty]
There are going to be many people who disagree with that fact but Dantonio is dead on about it. There are five power conferences and using four of those conference champions seems perfect for the playoff. Fans of the SEC aren’t going to be happy about that idea because there is more than one team that will likely deserve a playoff spot.
The only way that Dantonio likely gets his way is if there aren’t four undefeated teams at the end of the season. It is going to be up to the 13-person selection committee but hopefully they take some of the Dantonio’s advice about this. It would give each conference their one chance to win the national championship. It only seems fair.
