Jake Gyllenhaal Gets Douchier in New "Nightcrawler" Trailer [VIDEO]

If you thought Jake Gyllenhaal’s character couldn’t look like a bigger douchebag in the first Nightcrawler trailer, then you haven’t seen the new trailer.
The movie stars Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom, a freelance video journalist who trolls the late night streets of Los Angeles looking for stories with plenty of blood on the sidewalk to sell to the local TV station. He’s got a sociopathic quality to him as he insists he’s a hard worker and willing to do whatever it takes to get the story first. That includes beating the cops to crime scenes and witnessing robberies as they happen without even bothering to call the police and protect someone from getting killed in the process. It doesn’t help that the TV news editor, played by Rene Russo, breathes the “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality of TV news that seems to have infected the world of TV journalism like some kind of airborne virus. The new trailer is packed with more grisly action and low moments in Bloom’s drive to climb to the top of the junk news heap…

Stuff like this looks like pure Oscar bait but it also looks just grisly, dark and action-packed enough to be interesting. The movie’s also got some interesting obstacles to overcome now that it’s been been bumped to Halloween. It will have to convince audiences that it’s not another horror movie and that’s on top of the trouble it’s going to have trying to remind audiences that it’s not a stand-alone X-Men movie.
