Jim Carrey Gave A Surprisingly Moving Commencement Speech [VIDEO]

Jim Carrey never fails to surprise us. He went from transitioning into serious acting roles in 1998 with The Truman Show to actually agreeing to do a movie like Yes Man–and now we have this surprisingly moving (and frequently funny) commencement speech for the class of 2014 at the Maharishi University of Management.
Throughout his speech, Carrey makes plenty of good points about living in the present and worrying about  the immediate future. Perhaps one of the more heartfelt parts has Carrey discussing his own father and what a great comedian he could have been. However, his father took the safe route and became an accountant–and was then let go from that safe job when Carrey was 12 years old.
“You can fail at what you don’t want to do, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love,” says Carrey, and that’s a thought worth cheering along with his audience. Carrey was then awarded with the honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts Honoris Causa, in recognition of his significant lifetime achievements–which can include one of the best commencement speeches we’ve heard this year. Ace Ventura goes back to college? You’re welcome, Hollywood…
