Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith have been mistaken for each other at airports for years now, and the two finally faced off in a traditional drum-off on The Tonight Show. We know this because Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon says, “This is a traditional drum-off.” And you should probably prepare yourself if you’ve never looked at these two side-by-side. In fact, this is probably the first time that they’ve ever been together in a broadcast, so it’s nice to see that people aren’t nuts about Ferrell & Smith looking the same.
The best part of the whole thing is that Will Ferrell is a damn good drummer–well, except that we also get the Red Hot Chili Peppers finally coming out to join their bandmate and Ferrell in a take on the Blue Oyster Cult song “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.” If that’s a spoiler, then you either haven’t seen this classic SNL sketch, or you don’t know enough about how predictable talk shows are nowadays–even when they’re giving us fun moments like this…
