Chelsea Handler Rumors Now Have Her Landing At Netflix

We never thought that we’d be so interested in the career of E! late night host Chelsea Handler–but the late-night talk show scene is shifting again, and it happened just as Chelsea announced that wouldn’t renew her contract for Chelsea Lately. That got people wondering if maybe David Letterman had given her early word on his upcoming retirement. There was speculation that Chelsea might replace Craig Ferguson at The Late Late Show. Now the rumor say that Chelsea is moving away from traditional TV entirely and going to Netflix.
The latest report indicates that she’s reached a deal with the online streaming movie and TV company that has broken some interesting new ground with shows like Arrested Development, Hemlock Grove, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, the first online show to receive an Emmy nomination for Best Drama. The report doesn’t say if she’s interested in doing another talk show or a scripted comedy like her short-lived remake of her best selling book Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. The interesting part is that she recently said in an interview on Howard Stern’s satellite radio show that she would be interested in trying out something on Netflix’s streaming service.
Of course, this story is just the latest in what feels like a long line of unconfirmed rumors about where she’ll go and what field of entertainment she plans to conquer next. The last one said she was in talks with CBS to take over Craig Ferguson’s The Late Late Show after the network announced that Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert would fill in for David Letterman when he retires from The Late Show next year. She had to go on Ellen DeGeneres’ show just to tell the world that she would “never go to CBS,” even though she seemed to be hinting at some kind of deal with the network on her Instagram. Can we just confirm once and for all what our late-night options are going to be? We’d like to stop worrying about having enough time to work in our TV watching and REM sleep patterns.
