“Tosh.0” Production Assistant (Not Producer) Accidentally Killed By Cops

John Winkler (pictured above), who worked as a freelance Production Assistant on Comedy Central’s Tosh.0, was mistaken for someone who was actually trying to stab him and was fatally shot by police on Monday night in Los Angeles. The incident went down in West Hollywood, where Alexander McDonald was holding Winkler and a second victim at knife point in the living room. The 30-year-old Winkler had gone over to his neighbor’s home after hearing screams to try and help out his friends being held captive. Deputies responded to an “assault with a deadly weapon, man with a knife,” and shot and killed the wrong suspect–because both McDonald and Winkler were wearing similar black shirts, and why take chances, right?

Stabbing suspect McDonald has been charged with one count of murder, two accounts of attempted murder, and one count of torture . Bail has been set at 4.1 million. There has been no charges towards the deputies who shot the wrong dude, though. Apparently McDonald is a computer programmer who had no history of violent behavior. Hopefully, no bath salts were involved in this tragic event because this sounds like a lot of crazy sh*t was going down.

A lot of people have mistakenly reported that Winkler was a Tosh.0 producer. That’s not true, but job titles don’t really matter here. Now we’re interested to see how Tosh will play this whole thing out on his next show. He makes a lot of of dead babies jokes, so let’s hope he doesn’t get just as inspired by dead production assistant s. You never really know with Daniel Tosh…
