The Virginia Cavaliers hadn’t won an ACC title in 40 years so when they defeated the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon to win the conference title for the first time since 1976, there was reason to celebrate. The celebration continued when the Cavaliers received a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Virginia has a lot going for them heading into the Big Dance as well.
They won the conference title in the regular season as well even with teams like Syracuse and North Carolina challenging them all the way. Virginia took the conference tournament title in a hostile environment in Greensboro, NC which is usually full of Duke fans. Also, that No. 1 seed for the first time in 30 years should allow the Cavaliers to make their deepest tournament run in a long while.
If someone was looking for a No. 1 seed that could make some serious damage and go to the Final Four, it would have to be Virginia. They seem to have it all going their way right now.
