On Saturday, February 11, 2017, we’ll be treated to a historic night of competition at UFC 208. For the first time ever, the UFC will have a women’s featherweight bout. The new weight class is from 136 pounds to 145 pounds, and they are breaking in the division with a whopper of a fight.
Battling for the right to be named the first UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion will be Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie. Both fighters previously fought in the bantamweight division, so they will be both be moving up in weight.
Holm is 35-years-old, and she boats a lifetime MMA record of 10-2 with seven wins coming by knockout and three by decision. Holm is most well-known for shocking the world at UFC 193, knocking out the heavily favored Ronda Rousey to win the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
Since that huge upset, the Albuquerque, New Mexico native has lost her last two fights, submitting to Miesha Tate and dropping a unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko. But she will have a chance to redeem herself in memorable fashion with a victory against de Randamie, as she would become the first female UFC fighter to win titles in two weight classes (4th overall).
While Holm has more name recognition, de Randamie is the slight favorite. The oddsmakers currently have de Randamie listed at -120 and Holm at -110. de Randamie is from Utrecht, Netherlands, and in MMA competition, she has a record of 6-3 with three wins coming by knockout and three by submission. This will be the 32-year-old’s first title fight, and she earned this opportunity by winning her last two bouts. de Randamie is coming off of back-to-back knockout victories over Larissa Pacheco and Anna Elmose.
