Kimbo Slice, born Kevin Ferguson, died at the age of 42 on Monday, June 6, 2016. The exact cause of death is unknown, but it is believed to be because of heart failure.
Slice retired from underground fighting and signed a professional contract with EliteXC in 2007. Slice then competed in reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights, where he lost in his first fight to the eventual series winner Roy Nelson. In his professional UFC debut, Slice defeated Houston Alexander in the The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights finale. In January 2015, Slice was signed a fight contract with Bellator MMA.
On February 19, 2016, at Bellator 149, his last professional fight before his death, Slice defeated Dada 5000. Slice won the fight via TKO after Dada collapsed from exhaustion in the third. After the fight, it was reported that Slice had failed his pre-fight drug test, testing positive for the anabolic steroid Nandrolone, causing the result of the fight to be changed to no contest.
