June’s most important holiday – Flag Day – is upon us. In the land of the brave, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. The first official American flag, aka the Stars and Stripes, was approved by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The blue canton contained 13 stars, representing the original 13 colonies, but the layout changed with time.
The whole week of June 14 is designated as “National Flag Week,” during which time citizens are urged fly the American flag where ever they can. If you don’t have a house to put a flag on, it’s totally ok to wear the flag on various body parts. (We’ll get to that later.) The flag should also be displayed on all government buildings.
As festive as it sounds, remember, you still have to get your lazy ass to work. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.
The largest Flag Day parade can be found in Troy, New York, which typically draws 50,000 spectators. If you are in the area, do check it out in Flag Day gear.
Important reminders for the big day:
Do not step on the flag.
Do flaunt that flag on your swimsuit, bras and undies. By all means, rub your genitalia all over it.
Let’s take a look at that flag on the flesh:
